The design of this metro was developed for Lines 3 and 4 of the Shanghai Metro, two of the busiest lines in the city, which operate primarily during peak hours.
This required a design that could balance functionality, resistance, and comfort, while maintaining a coherent and distinctive aesthetic that would fit seamlessly within the Shanghai Metro identity. Beyond the production model, a concept version of the cabin was also proposed, exploring new materials, lighting systems, and user interfaces that anticipate the future of urban mobility in megacities like Shanghai. Today, the train is fully operational, delivering reliable, high-quality service and contributing to a smoother, more sustainable commuting experience for thousands of citizens every day.

The exterior design of this metro combines modernity with cultural expression, using a color palette of white, black, purple, and yellow that creates a strong visual identity. The front section, predominantly black, features smooth curves, circular headlights, and a panoramic window emphasizing aerodynamics. Along the sides, a broad purple band runs horizontally across the white body, accompanied by a slender yellow line that introduces a sense of speed and rhythm. This yellow accent incorporates subtle graphic motifs inspired by Asian patterns. Overall, the train’s exterior conveys a sense of elegance, efficiency, and cultural identity, achieving harmony between function, technology, and artistic expression.
