Vitoria-Gasteiz has been one of the first cities in Spain in incorporating the BEI into the public transport network of TUVISA. It is a new form of mobility with electric vehicles, a high-capacity convoy, an access platform at stops, exclusive lanes and traffic light preference. Thus, the BEI is ultimately a non-polluting means of transport that allows journeys to be made in less time. DIARADESIGN’s contribution within the consortium has been to design the new mobility experience from the passengers perspective, focusing on the bus shelters design. Keys such as what is the first thing that passengers do when they enter, what kind of information are they looking for, where are they located, what should be transmitted to them… have been key to designing the family of these modern shelters.

Timeless design for the city.
The BEIof Vitoria-Gasteiz features a new generation of shelters designed to integrate naturally into the city’s urban and climatic context. Their straight lines, metallic structure and transparent panels convey a clean, contemporary and timeless aesthetic that complements the surrounding architecture without imposing on it.
Beyond appearance, every detail of the design responds to functionality, durability and comfort, ensuring protection against rain, wind and sun, while maintaining visual permeability and intuitive use for all passengers.

These insights guided the definition and placement of each element: ticket machines, information panels, seating, lighting and accessibility solutions, ensuring that the shelters are not only functional, but also intuitive, comfortable and inclusive.
